Comprehensive Dental Examinations

Routine dental exams are a cornerstone of preventive care. We recommend biannual dental examinations for all patients to monitor oral health, detect issues early, and reduce the risk of more serious dental problems. During each visit, your dentist will thoroughly assess your teeth, gums, jaw joints, and bite alignment. Every exam also includes an oral cancer screening to detect any abnormal tissue changes in the mouth, tongue, and throat.

For patients with complete dentures, we recommend annual evaluations to check for fit, comfort, and any changes in oral tissue or bone structure that may affect the denture’s stability or your health.

Professional Dental Cleanings (Prophylaxis)

Dental cleanings, or prophylaxis, are performed by a licensed dental hygienist and are recommended at least twice per year. Even with excellent at-home brushing and flossing, plaque and tartar can accumulate in hard-to-reach areas. Regular cleanings remove this buildup to help prevent gum disease, tooth decay, and bad breath—all while leaving your teeth looking and feeling refreshed.

Digital X-Rays

To provide the most accurate diagnosis and treatment, we utilize advanced digital x-rays. These low-radiation images are typically taken once a year and help identify hidden dental issues, such as tooth decay, bone loss, and infection, that may not be visible during a visual exam.

In addition to standard x-rays, we offer 3-D digital x-rays (cone beam imaging) every 3–5 years or as needed. These detailed scans allow us to evaluate the jawbone, maxillary sinuses, root anatomy, and other structures critical for diagnosing complex dental conditions and planning surgical procedures.

Concerned about radiation exposure? Digital radiography significantly reduces radiation levels compared to traditional x-rays. For more information, we recommend visiting ada.org or mouthhealthy.org.

Custom Mouth Guards

We provide custom-fitted mouth guards for both protection and therapeutic use.

  • Athletic mouth guards are ideal for patients who play contact sports, helping to prevent dental trauma and concussions.
  • Night guards are recommended for patients who suffer from bruxism (teeth grinding) or TMJ (temporomandibular joint) disorders, helping to reduce jaw pain, protect enamel, and improve sleep quality.

Custom mouth guards made by a dentist offer better comfort, durability, and protection than store-bought options.

Fluoride Treatments

Fluoride is a natural mineral that strengthens tooth enamel and helps prevent decay. We offer professional fluoride treatments for both children and adults as part of our preventive care services. These treatments are especially beneficial for patients at higher risk of cavities.

Our office provides two types of fluoride:

  • Fluoride varnish, which is painted onto the teeth and absorbs quickly for long-lasting protection.
  • Fluoride gel, typically used in a tray, which is effective for patients needing broader coverage or enhanced enamel strengthening.
