Root Canal Therapy
A root canal is a restorative dental procedure used to save a tooth that has been severely damaged by decay, trauma, or infection affecting the tooth’s pulp (the inner nerve and blood supply). When left untreated, an infected or inflamed pulp can cause pain, swelling, and lead to abscesses or even tooth loss.
During a root canal procedure, the dentist:
- Carefully removes the damaged or infected nerve tissue
- Cleans and disinfects the inside of the tooth
- Seals the canal to prevent future infection
This process eliminates pain and infection while preserving your natural tooth structure. After the procedure, a crown is often placed over the tooth to restore its strength and function.
Root canal therapy is a safe, effective, and virtually painless way to avoid extraction and maintain a healthy smile. It also helps protect surrounding teeth and implants from the spread of infection.
